The scientific meeting

We invite you all to the scientific meeting “Grga Antunac in the light of new findings” on Thursday, December 14. in the space of the multimedia hall of the Interpretation Centre. The start of the meeting is on Thursday at 10 am.
The organizer is the Museum of the City of Šibenik in cooperation with the University of Zadar.
Grga Antunac was born on March 11, 1906 in Šibenik, and studied sculpture at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts in the class of professors Rudolf Valdec, Robert Frangeš Mihanović and Frano Kršinić. His creativity was largely marked by work for others, which is why he was unfairly overshadowed by greats such as Ivan Meštrović and Antun Augustinčić. Nevertheless, the part that worked for himself and private clients testifies to the quality of the artist who stands alongside the greats of that time.
Although he spent most of his life living and working in Zagreb, he never forgot his native Šibenik. This is evidenced by the fact that he responded without a doubt to the invitation to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the first mention of Šibenik, for which he also created a commemorative medal.
This artist also signs the bronze doorposts for the Šibenik cathedral and with them almost symbolically closes the artistic cycle that began and ended in Šibenik. Namely, the bronze doorposts for the Šibenik cathedral are his last artistic work, since he died immediately after finishing the works.
