Šibenik Church

On Wednesday, July 20, in the space of the gallery “St. Nikola Tavelić” inside the Interpretation Centre of the St. James Cathedral “Civitas Sacra”, the exhibition “Sibenik Church” by Nikola Branko Lovrić Caparin has opened.

It is an exhibition in the foreground of which is a painting, collage-aquarelle of the Šibenik Cathedral, and other works are also exhibited, also on the theme of the Cathedral.
The customer of the aforementioned painting is the pastor of the cathedral parish of St. JaMES, don Krešimir Mateša, and it will be presented as a gift to the new Dubrovnik bishop, Msgr. Roko Glasnović on the occasion of leading the solemn mass celebration on the feast of St. James in Šibenik in 2022. The painting is a gift from the cathedral parish of St. James ap. which pastor Mateša spoke about at the opening.

The intention of the painting was not to emphasize material values, but to reveal the spiritual dimension of the Cathedral of St. James.
In this search, the author focused on details that each have their own message, but also a common denominator. Thus, this collage-aquarelle contains all the important details of the Šibenik Cathedral, which Lovrić Caparin explained in detail to all present last night: from the main altar, the statue of St. James, St. Michael, dome, baptistery, Our Lady of Weeping, Our Lady of Health, the altar of St. Cross, Bishop Fosco, who obtained the title of basilica from the Pope to the Šibenik Cathedral, Bishop Banić – “Stepinac of Šibenik”, Bishop Emeritus Ivas, and there is also the chair of today’s Bishop Rogić with his coat of arms.

All this “mixtum compositum” of the mentioned details wants to highlight the spiritual, conscious or unconscious desire of the people of Šibenik to dream of another world, to testify to their faith. It is a story about the real Church, not about the brick, stone one, but about the living, Christ’s Church.

Fine art professor Pavle Roca addressed the audience and spoke about Caparin’s work, painting and family talent.

The exhibition was opened by the Bishop of Šibenik, Msgr. Tomislav Rogić, emphasizing the importance of the living Church.

Entrance to the exhibition is free, and anyone interested can view it until July 25.
