Presentation of the monograph of the Šibenik Cathedral
The Šibenik Diocese and the Croatian Photography Center invite you to the presentation of the monograph ”BASILICA OF ST. JAMES IN ŠIBENIK”, by Andrija Mutnjaković on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 12:00 in the multimedia hall.
With the monograph, Academician Mutnjaković continues his research into Croatian contributions to the development of Renaissance architecture in Italy and Croatia (indicated in the book’s documents). The exceptional historical and cultural value of the Church of St. James was assessed by Pope Leo XIII. and he named it a Basilica, thus placing it among the top churches of Christianity. UNESCO also inscribed the Šibenik Basilica on the World Cultural Heritage List, thus determining its preservation for the benefit of all humanity.
Despite international recognition, the Šibenik Cathedral is barely present in world literature. The reason is the lack of professionally written books in any of the world’s languages. ”THE BASILICA OF SAINT JAMES IN ŠIBENIK” is written in parallel in Croatian and English, supplemented by masterful photographs by Luka Mjeda, architectural plans and sketches, archival documents and used literature. This makes this monograph, as an early Renaissance work of the Šibenik people, nobles, bishops and architects – built in the 15th century parallel to the development of the Renaissance in Italy – accessible to the world public, architectural historians, architectural faculties, clerics and architects.
