Announcement of a new exhibition

On Wednesday, July 20, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the gallery of ”St. Nikola Tavelić” inside the Interpretation Centre of the St. James Cathedral “Civitas Sacra”, the exhibition “Šibenik Church” will be opened.
The author of the picture, collage-aquarelle is Nikola Branko Lovrić Caparin, who in an interesting and different way depicts the Šibenik Cathedral of St. James, and states that the intention of the painting was not to emphasize the notorious values of the Šibenik Cathedral, but to reveal the causes of its beauty and sublimity and to find the content of this architectural miracle. In that search, he approached the details, each of which has its own message, but also a common denominator. This collage-waquarelle contains all the important details of the Šibenik cathedral: the main altar, the statue of St. James, St. Michael’s, dome, baptistery, Our Lady of Weeping, Our Lady of Health, altar of St. Cross, Bishop Fosco who received the title of basilica from the Pope to the Šibenik Cathedral, Bishop Banić – the “Stepinac of Šibenik”, and there is also the chair of today’s Bishop Rogić with his coat of arms.
All this “mixtum compositum” of the mentioned details wants to highlight the spiritual, conscious or unconscious desire of the people of Šibenik to dream of another world, to testify to their faith. It is a story about the real Church, not about the brick, stone one, but about the living, Christ’s Church.
The exhibition will remain open until July 25, when the painting will be presented as a gift to the new Dubrovnik bishop, Msgr. Roko Glasnović on the occasion of leading the solemn mass celebration on the feast of St. James in Šibenik in 2022. The painting is a gift from the cathedral parish of St. James ap.
Entrance to the exhibition is free.
