Grga Antunac in the light of new finding

On Thursday, 14.12.2023. part of a two-day scientific meeting entitled: “Grga Antunac in the light of new finding” was held in the multimedia hall.
The organizer of the event is the Museum of the City of Šibenik in cooperation with the Department of Art History of the University of Zadar.
The scientific meeting was realized with the financial support of the City of Šibenik and the Ministry of Culture and Media. On behalf of the City of Šibenik, Paško Rakić addressed the guests, on behalf of the Šibenik Diocese, Father Bishop Msgr. Tomislav Rogić, and Meri Zornija on behalf of the University of Zadar.
The director of the Museum of the City of Šibenik, Željko Krnčević emphasized the importance of this artist not only for the city of Šibenik but also for the wider public, since he is an excellent artist of Croatian modernism, and in Šibenik he is best known for the creation of large bronze doorposts on the side and western portals of the Cathedral of St. James.
The meeting itself was opened by Grga Antunac’s grandson Saša Sladoljev, who shared his memories of his grandfather with the guests and thanked everyone who participated in the organization of this meeting.
The organizer of the meeting, art historian and curator of the Šibenik City Museum, Anita Travčić, emphasized that not a single scientific article had been written about Grga Antunac and thanked Nataša Sladoljev Antunac, the late artist’s daughter, for her wholehearted help with the organization.
Nine experts, mostly art historians, treated Grga Antunac’s oeuvre in different ways, his artistic creativity and his relationship and collaboration with colleagues and giants of Croatian modernity such as Ivan Meštrović and Antun Augustinčić.
