Churches of our city

Another exhibition in a series of “Churches of our city” was opened.

It is an exhibition of children’s works submitted to an art competition organized by the Catholic elementary school in Šibenik, and this year the competition was announced for the tenth jubilee time.

Through the given topic, the goal is to encourage students to research, get to know and present the cultural heritage of their city in the form of works of art. Throughout the centuries, society has built different types of churches, larger and smaller, but the goal has always been the same – to bring spiritual reality closer by building, giving the best of oneself, either materially or conceptually. Church buildings are symbols of faith and the time in which they were built, and above all, they are a sign of God’s presence among us. The church as such opens a well of possibilities for its artistic interpretation.

Over ten years, hundreds of works have been submitted to the competition from all parts of Croatia, and mentors from schools outside the Republic of Croatia often respond.
This year, 374 art works were submitted to the competition, 78 mentors from 54 schools, two Centers and one kindergarten from the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina responded. Among the submitted works, 10 were awarded.

Members of the judging committee: Sr. Mandica Starčević, director; Katarina Škugor, classroom teacher and Milena Mikulandra, art teacher.

The exhibition remains open until November 25, 2024. Free entrance.
